Make-A-Wish Weekend at Basket-Full

Update: We contributed $297.50 to Saskatchewan Make-A-Wish Foundation. Thank you for your support!

It’s no surprise that Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas are right around the corner.

Everyone is frantically moving through malls, boutiques, and online stores trying to tick off the items on their lists, completely absorbed in the stress and “gotta have it” mindset that we can so easily adopt during the holidays. The pressure undoubtedly increases during this season to buy items for others and for ourselves, especially when they are discounted! Items on sale, especially ones that we don’t need, seem to attract us so much more and cause us to forget the reason for the season.

To take strides away from the big box consumerism connected with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we have decided to maintain regular price on all items at Basket-Full from Friday, November 29 through Monday, December 2, and then donate 20% of all items sold to the Saskatchewan Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Our goal during Black Friday can’t be to compete with the prices of the Big Box Stores because that simply isn’t sustainable for a small business. Instead, we want to help bring happiness and courage to the lives of sick children in our province and allow our customers the opportunity to give back while doing their holiday shopping.

Make-A-Wish is an organization that works to bring joy and hope to children with critical illnesses by granting them a Wish that allows them and their families to come together during a difficult time. The foundation first sprang into operation in 1980 in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, following the passing of 7-year-old Christopher James Greicius who wished to be a police officer. A few years after, in 1993, Make-A-Wish International was formed to serve children in countries other than the USA. As of today, Make-A-Wish International has 39 affiliates across the world, granting Wishes to children in just under 50 countries, on 5 continents!

As you can imagine, granting wishes to critically ill children requires an immense amount of compassion and collaboration. Because of this, Make-A-Wish needs the support of generous donors and utilizes approximately 50,000 volunteers to grant wishes worldwide. To date, Make-A-Wish has collectively granted almost 480,000 wishes, designating them the world’s largest wish-granting organization!

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is one that is close to our hearts and one that we are proud to support. As a small business, we want to ensure that we are doing our part in the community and this province to give back to those in need. Since Black Friday is associated with (American) Thanksgiving and Christmas is just around the corner, we want to make sure that at Basket-Full we are embodying the giving and thankful spirit of the season.

We can’t wait to see you in the store!
